Should You Massage after CoolSculpting® Treatments?

19 Nov Should You Massage after CoolSculpting® Treatments?

You might have heard that massaging the treated area after CoolSculpting® is beneficial. Many people ask if they should massage at home after CoolSculpting to reap even more benefits.

Here’s the rundown of aftercare and massage after your appointment and what you can do at home.

The 2-Minute Massage

Some small studies have found that a 2-minute massage immediately after getting CoolSculpting can help to break down the treated fat cells so they can be removed from your body more effectively. This massage is typically done by your provider directly after the CoolSculpting device is applied to the targeted area.

During the last 10 minutes of treatment, the CoolSculpting machine itself switches to a massage mode. However, these studies have found that the additional 2 minutes of manual massage can have significant benefits to help you see the best outcome.

Your physician should massage the area after CoolSculpting, so you don’t have to do it at home.

Home Care after CoolSculpting

The benefits of massage after CoolSculpting can continue well after the initial application. That is why we recommend 1 to 2-minute massages once or twice per day for a week following your treatment.

Massaging the area at home yourself shouldn’t hurt anything, and will encourage optimal results. Wearing a compression garment can help to reduce swelling and make you feel more comfortable for the first few weeks after your treatment. Otherwise, you should be able to get right back to your normal routine, including heading back to work, while you wait for your full results to develop.
